MIT CCCS 2019 Spring Concert: Passion and Glory

The MIT Cambridge Chinese Choral Society proudly presents its 2019 spring
concert, “Passion and Glory,” featuring masterworks of European
composers.

Led by music director Dr. Yufen Yen and accompanied by Dr. I-Ying Lin, this
musical journey starts in the Romantic period in Germany where Brahms, with
his sentimental and passionate melody of “Zigeunerlieder,” or “The
Gypsy Songs,” brings us a taste of the happiness and sorrow that spring
from a heart full of love. Afterward, a selection from contemporary British
composer John Rutter explores the mystery and paradox of life. We then
conclude our concert in Baroque Venice with Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria.
Performing with a chamber orchestra, we will bring you the full rendition of
this joyful hymn of praise and worship to God.

music, and experience the spiritual glory and passion of love that has
resonated with humanity through the centuries.

Passion and Glory – 劍橋合唱團2019春季音樂會

劍橋合唱團本季將演出全系列歐洲作曲家作品，包括韋瓦第「榮耀頌」、布拉姆斯「流浪者之歌」(吉普賽之歌)、及當代英國作曲家暨合唱指揮約翰·盧特的三首合唱小品。
「流浪者之歌」(吉普賽之歌)是浪漫時期作曲家布拉姆斯最有名的聲樂作品之一。全組曲共11首歌，以德文演唱，聲響色彩豐富，全部使用四二拍，展現吉普賽民族的熱情與傷感，本次演出輯選其中四首。
生於義大利威尼斯的韋瓦第，早年曾擔任神職，是巴洛克時期重要多產的作曲家。這首「榮耀頌」的樂譜，在韋瓦第逝世約兩百年後才被發現，目前咸認創作年代是在1713-1717年間，為他當時任教的一所專收女童的孤兒院的聖誕慶典所作。由於本身是小提琴家，伴奏部分可以聆賞到豐富的絃樂音效。賦格的運用、各聲部的競唱、活潑爽朗的樂風與音群，都展現巴洛克時期音樂的豐盈。這也是劍橋合唱團近年開始與職業音樂家合作以來，樂團編制最大的一次演出

MIT Cambridge Chinese Choral Society (CCCS), the premier Chinese-language choral group in the Greater Boston area, presents its 2018 Winter Concert. [前事今聲] – 劍橋合唱團 2018 冬季音樂會，以音樂讀詩

劍橋合唱團今冬將帶來全中文曲目音樂會「前事今聲」，由顏毓芬博士指揮、鋼琴家林宜穎博士伴奏，呈獻黃友棣、周鑫泉、冉天豪三位分別在不同時期活躍於台灣的作曲家，擷取自過去一千兩百年來傳頌於中文世界的詩詞譜寫的作品。詩是故事的載體，兼有文字的精練與聲韻格律之美，不分古今，都是作曲家靈感的泉源。

本次上半場從唐詩宋詞到清代小說「紅樓夢」中出現的小曲，全為重視古典傳統、致力於以音樂弘道的黃友棣作曲；下半場有冉天豪作曲的「風、雪、戀、星」組曲，展現詩人徐志摩自由奔放的熱情；隨著時代的洪流推移，余光中在1970年代旅美期間對外呼應美國反戰潮流與台灣的民歌運動、對內懷抱中年離鄉的自我叩問，被周鑫泉譜成了茫茫風中的「答案」；張曼娟的短文小品「月光箋」，將現代都會裡難以投遞的幽微寂寞，寄託於唯一不變的圓滿。

今聲唱前事，回顧風雲，也聽風月。

MIT CCCS 2018 秋季招生 Fall Auditions

CCCS is now recruiting new members for the fall 2018 season. We are looking for 3-6 sopranos/altos and 4-8 tenors/basses. Rehearsals are on Fridays 8-10pm at MIT 4-270, starting September 7th. New singers are welcome to apply for the audition and come prepared with a song of your choice.

MIT CCCS 2018 Spring Concert: 【賦別】Every End Is a New Beginning

MIT Cambridge Chinese Choral Society (CCCS), the premier Chinese-language choral group in the Greater Boston area, will perform its 2018 Spring Concert “Every End Is a New Beginning” on Saturday, May 26, 7:30 PM at MIT Kresge Auditorium.

Coinciding with the centennial of the end of World War I and taking place on Memorial Day weekend, the program revolves around themes of parting and remembrance. The centerpiece of the concert is Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light: A Requiem, while the Chinese-language selections give a nod to graduating students and the immigrant community, for whom parting is an inevitable shared experience.

Eternal Light: A Requiem is a contemporary requiem by British composer Howard Goodall that removes the heavier parts about “judgment” and “damnation” the traditional Latin text, replacing them with classical English poems focused on bidding farewell and eternal rest.

Leading up to the requiem are several highly emotional Mandarin and Taiwanese choral classics including The Sojourner by Tyzen Hsiao, To Forget by Huang Yau-tai, and Farewell in City South by Jenny H. Chou and John P. Ordway.

Whether you are an immigrant, veteran, graduating student, or simply interested in choral music, “Every End Is a New Beginning” is promised to be a memorable experience for everyone this Memorial Day weekend.

1918年，歷時四年的第一次世界大戰畫上句點，戰爭從倖存者的記憶，漸漸淡出成遙遠的絕響。百年之後，強權更迭、帝國崩解，文明前進了，但人類的苦難，似乎並沒有結束……

春夏是繁花盛開的季節，也是校園畢業師生離別的季節。2018年五月，劍橋合唱團將演繹當代英國作曲家Howard Goodall在一戰終戰90週年時所譜寫的「永恆之光安魂曲」（Eternal Light: A Requiem）、 黃友棣的「遺忘」、蕭泰然的「出外人」、以及周鑫泉的「城南送別」。由顏毓芬博士指揮，鋼琴家林宜穎伴奏。
